In this video, sustainability expert and TV presenter Jamie Durie interviews Dave Hardy (GM Concrete Regional, NSW/ACT) and Tony Palmer (Black Rock Motor Resort Principal) about the pioneering partnership between Boral, Australia’s leading building materials company, and Black Rock Motor Resort—the country’s first motorsport resort.
As Black Rock Motor Resort takes shape, Boral’s recycled materials are laying the foundation for a greener future. The resort is incorporating recycled road base, recycled low-carbon concrete, and recycled low-carbon, partially plant-based asphalt—all reducing environmental impact while enhancing durability.
Ironically, recycled coal ash from the Eraring Power Station—just south of the resort—plays a crucial role in this sustainability effort, delivering up to 65% lower carbon emissions compared to traditional materials. It’s a full-circle moment, as Black Rock itself was once a coal mine that supplied coal to the Eraring power station.
From securing the site nine years ago to receiving DA approval in May 2019, and formally relinquishing the mine lease in December 2023, Black Rock has been on a long journey. Land clearing and circuit grading began in March 2024, and just 11 months later, the vision is becoming reality.
With the clearing complete, we’re one step closer to Australia’s most exclusive motorsport destination.
